I finally got hold of NEVER LAND’s Beautiful Days CD and I fell in love with the stories inside its lyrics, so much that I want to make others could love them too by trying to translate them here.
If you’re not familiar with the band, kindly check their homepage that Akihide-san has preserved in his homepage.
I might have gotten lost while translating. There might be things here and there that come from my own interpretations in order to build nice English. It’s always past midnight each time I turn on my computer and start translating. I wrote my comments/explanations under each song.
Corrections and comments are highly appreciated.
Pianist
Words/Music: Akihide
A pianist who has lost his sound
Was crying from grief
His tears freeze in the corner of a boulevard
There he encountered one young lady
One flower seller lady who has lost her light
Reaching out towards a red rose
Sweet smell was overflowing the air
“I was born in order to meet you”
With those words I cannot say
Softly, kindly, I tightened my hold on your hand
From then on both of them were holding hands
On a hill full of flowers blooming they were waiting for the night
White petals flitting in the wind
“I can see the beautiful evening.
The sound of nocturnal insects, you’re the one who listen to them.”
Their shadows merge as one
While the air wraps them in sweet smelling fragrance
“I am happy just to be able to meet you”
With those words I cannot say
For you, at least, I want to present this melody
The rose I gave you has gone withered
Even now, my heart stays blooming
Even after you’re gone
In these lengthy day after day you left behind
For me, to be able to meet you is happiness
Therefore please don’t forget this melody
The more I listen to this song and read the lyrics, the more I love this song. I love the part where the two of them were waiting for the night, and the pianist said that he could see the evening for the lady, and told the lady to listen to the night sounds for him.
I change through POV from verse to verse, just because I think it's more beautiful. You can have interpret it differently, though, Japanese sentences often drop subjects and leave us a little freedom (if not lost) in deciding the subject. Some grammatical context is altered here and there in order to get English translation that makes sense to me.
